• Attends referee clinic
• Learns the rules of basketball and specific league rules
• Arrives 15 minutes prior to scheduled game time dressed and ready to start game
• Starts all games on time
• Comes prepared with the following:
  • Umpire shirt
  • Running shoes
  • Whistle
  • Stop watch
  • Penalty flag
  • Penalty card cheat sheet
  • Pencil and notepad
  • Hat
  • Rule book
• Attends any coaches' meetings to establish rapport
• Learns to be fair and consistent in calling games
