General Purpose

 

Performs a variety of clerical, secretarial and reception duties including, but not limited to, customer relations, membership registration, cashiering, retail sales, processing daily deposits, providing information, answering phones, filing, requisitioning supplies, etc.

 

Reporting Relationships

 

Supervision Received:  The Administrative Assistant works directly under the MRAC Manager.

 

Essential Functions

 

Persons appointed to this position must be able to perform all the essential tasks required by the position. The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job, are not intended to be all-inclusive or restrictive and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required.

 

Demonstrate an understanding of the mission and core values of City of Moab Recreation Department and MRAC in work and professional endeavors; accomplish performance goals established with the MRAC Director.

 

Greet the public; respond to requests for information and provide factual information related to services, programs, and general policies, practices and procedures; provide patrons with requested forms, publications and other informational materials.

 

Accept payment from clients for facility use or other sales, register clients for a variety of programs and memberships. Operate computer as needed to perform membership and program registration and secretarial duties. Manage facility membership and registration records for retrieval and filing.

 

Operate office and telephone equipment; receive, respond to, and direct incoming telephone calls; query callers to identify needed assistance, determine appropriate department or office and direct calls accordingly and deliver messages to personnel Monitor office equipment/computer system to detect problems, apprise supervisor of potential problems and repairs.

 

Keep front desk area clean and tidy; keep track of office supply inventory and order when necessary. May be asked to open and/or close facility.

Direct walk-in customers and visitors to proper locations; apprise staff of appointment arrivals. Listen to public complaints, questions, etc.; respond to questions and concerns by referring individuals to appropriate personnel for assistance.

 

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Must be at least 14 years of age
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently perform several tasks at once; detail oriented, organized
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of basic office machinery and telephone systems
  • Must possess basic math and money handling skills; retail and cashier experience preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with other employees and the public, work irregular hours, perform a variety of tasks simultaneously or in rapid succession, maintain an upbeat and motivational demeanor

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

 

  • Various shifts, including early mornings, mid-day, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Work occurs in variable weather conditions including warm weather, water, and prolonged exposure to sunlight
  • Tasks may entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting and swimming
  • Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to performing job requirements. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions
