Class Title:  Public Facilities Worker                                          Department: Recreation     

Division:  Moab Recreation & Aquatic Center                          Effective Date: 1/3/10





Performs general custodial, cleaning, maintenance and grounds upkeep for the Moab Recreation and Aquatic Center facilities and grounds.




Supervision Received: The employee works directly under the MRAC Director.




Cleans offices, locker rooms, changing rooms, child care room, mechanical room and lobby, vacuums and shampoos carpets, sweeps and mops floors, dusts interiors, empties trash, cleans mirrors, windows, doors and other areas.


Maintains parking lots, landscaping and outdoor areas adjacent to buildings. Removes ice, snow and debris from sidewalks and parking lots.


Assists with preparation for special events and programs if necessary; assists with maintenance and cleaning required for special events.


Maintains maintenance supply inventory, maintains records of time and materials used. Assists with the installation of equipment and other needed items.

Assists in the planning and purchasing of equipment and materials and the preparation of specifications and cost estimates for building maintenance projects if required.


Responds to emergencies.


Performs other duties as required or assigned.




  1. Education/Experience


  1. High school graduate or equivalent


  1. 6 months experience in facility and grounds maintenance
  1. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  1. Working knowledge of principles of facility management, and the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance and


  1. Ability to operate equipment used in facilities and grounds maintenance and cleaning;


  1. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing; ability to

establish effective working relationships with employees and the public.

  1. Special Qualifications (Licenses, Certifications, ) Must hold a valid Utah Driver's license

Must be available to work weekends and evenings


  1. Work Environment and Physical Demands


Custodian occasionally works outdoors in variable conditions, performs light and heavy labor; operates machinery; tasks regularly include muscular exertion, walking, standing, stooping, reaching and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing are necessary for performing most essential functions. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.
